My Approach
My practice philosophy follows a Non-Diet Approach, which essentially means that I support you to change your behaviours (rather than your weight) to achieve better health.
Research shows us that intentional weight loss is unsustainable for most people and the weight will likely be regained (plus more!) within 5 years. It is also important to factor in that restricting our intake for the purpose of weight loss can have harmful impacts on our physical and mental health.
Some examples of goals we might focus on instead of weight loss in a Non-Diet Approach to nutrition are:
Learning to tune into hunger and fullness cues
Building a better understanding of the body’s nutritional needs
Increasing food variety
Balancing blood sugar levels
Working on challenging arbitrary food rules
Improving diet quality
Improving your eating behaviours and relationship with food may or may not result in weight loss, but I approach these goals without the expectation of weight loss as an end result.
What to Expect
The initial appointment is where I learn all about you! We'll chat about your history, lifestyle and motivations and establish a personalised plan to reach your goals. This process generally takes around 50 minutes.
During ensuing appointments, we’ll check in with your progress, chat through what is and isn't working, and determine how to navigate the next steps. This takes either 30 or 50 minutes, depending on the complexity of your concerns. All clients with an active eating disorder will be required to schedule extended review consults.
Some people will only need a few appointments, while others will benefit from more long-term treatment.
